Step 2: Installation

Do it yourself or do it with us. Or both!

While we always encourage our clients to get their hands dirty, we are at the ready to professionally install your design. Contact us to get a customized install quote that fits your timeline and budget. Food forests can be installed all at once or in phases.

Step 3: Aftercare

The gardening gloves don't come off when the planting's done...

By design, food forests are meant to be low maintenance once established. However, we know that life isn't static and needs may change over time. That's why we offer ongoing aftercare and consultation services so that if you have a question or are in need of adding/ maintaining elements to your food forest, we're always here to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

A well-designed food forest can be installed in as little as a few hundred square feet and still provide dozens of varieties of food. Through the layers of a food forest and what’s planted, more can be yielded in the same square footage of space as an annual garden.

An average backyard installation costs about the same as a conventional professional landscaping project. Cost will always vary depending on lot size, scope of work, number of visits, etc. However, once your food forest is established, your return on investment will more than make up for the initial cost.

Typically, perennial plants can take between 2 and 5 years to mature and produce food (such as fruit and nut trees.) However, we also incorporate annual vegetables for your short-term food supply.

Food forests are are low-maintenance by design, and, over time, self-sustaining like a natural forest would be. Food Forest Abundance will create a design that suits your lifestyle and provide any necessary care instructions, support, and training. The best way to maintain your food forest is to observe and interact.
